Imbolc – betwixt and between

The 1st of February is known in the Celtic calendar as Imbolc. It is the first of eight Sabbats in the yearly cycle and is traditionally the start of the Celtic year. Placed halfway between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox, it is a time of transition. Winter is coming to an end; as I write it is sleeting outside, and Spring has not quite started. Energetically it is a time for letting go of what no longer serves, be it clearing out cupboards, spring cleaning, or ending connections with people who you have less in common with than you used to.

Clearing the decks is an important spiritual practice as it makes physical and emotional space for new ideas, growth and creative processes which would be hampered by unproductive clutter. If your tendency is to hold on to things or relationships beyond what is healthy, you could enlist the help of allies like snowdrop, robin or holly to help you let go.
